A while ago I discovered the #tekenuurtje challenge by the illustrator Linda van den Berg.

I subscribed to her account attracted by her very poetic illustrations, then I discovered that she was proposing a creative challenge.

Every Sunday, she posts a photograph that participants have to recreate using their favorite medium. The important thing is not to overthink it and to have fun for an hour during the week. This allows you to draw a subject you might not have thought of (or carefully avoided because it’s outside your comfort zone).

I only had time to participate in the challenge once. I was immediately drawn to this photograph from a Mulberry ad campaign. The flowers, the little pig, the school bag, the model’s hairstyle, I found all these elements fresh and joyful.

My proposition

The spring mood of the photograph made me want to draw a garland to brighten up the living room at the end of winter.

I kept the elements that spoke to me the most: the little pig that I placed in the blue binder, the flowerpots, the leaves and, of course, the model and her colorful haircut.

I drew all this in procreate on my iPad pro. I exported to png, printed and then did a quick cut out with my cameo silhouette.
